Juventus midfielder Pavel Nedved is set to retire at the end of the season - even if the Italian giants manage to win the Champions League.
Sportmediaset.it claims the former Czech international will finally hang up his boots at the end of term as he has failed to negotiate a new deal with Juventus. The Bianconeri have not come forward to secure the midfielder's services for another season and the idea of a pay as you play deal has not gone down well with the veteran.
There were rumours that suggested that Nedved could stay on another year if Juve lifted the Champions League this season, however, these whispers appear to have little foundation and the former Lazio man will probably wave goodbye to calcio after a 13 year stint in Serie A.
The European Cup remains the Old Lady's and Nedved's aim this term, but after losing to Chelsea in the first leg of the last 16 stage there are growing doubts in Turin about Juve’s ability to achieve this goal. Nedved has never won the Champions League; he came so close in 2003 and winning it this term would be the perfect send off for him.
It's unlikely that the Bianconeri will try to tempt the midfielder to stay, leading to suggestions that this will be Nedved's final year on the pitch. The player has not yet confirmed his future plans.
