Jeremy Mathieu, a 25-year-old defender for Ligue 1 side Toulouse, has said he feels ready to try a foreign footballing experience.
As Genoa’s ambitions and league position get higher by the week, they need to expand their squad, and the Frenchman could be the answer they are looking for.
Il Corriere dello Sport reported that I Grifoni have made an offer and the recipient seemed to like the sound of it.
“It’s an impressive offer I got from Genoa,” Mathieu said. "I am certainly interested, as this would be a step forward for me.
“It is a serious league and a big stage for a player like me.
“There are other sides interested, [notably Roma and a few German teams] but I don’t want to play in the Bundesliga.”
He concluded that there were offers on the table to keep him in France, but he has refused them.
“I said no because, at the moment the priority for me is to leave France,” he concluded.
