According to a preliminary report from Barca's medical team, the Frenchman has been diagnosed with a pulled right abductor muscle.
Abidal was injured in the 23rd minute after a challenge with Sergio Sanchez, and was immediately replaced by Carles Puyol.
More tests are expected in the following days, to determine the exact nature of the injury, and the time he will be out for.
Abidal is expected to miss the Champions League clash with his old team Lyon, as well as the subsequent rounds of the competition, should Barca qualify.
