Luis Garcia believes that it is the perfect time for Espanyol to be playing Real Madrid as the Catalan outfit are full of confidence after their derby win over Barcelona last weekend.
Los Merengues visit Montjuic on Saturday evening for what is historically a difficult encounter for the capital club - and the Blanc i Blau are hoping to cause another surprise.
Having helped Madrid in the title race by defeating Barca, Luis Garcia now thinks that they can return the favour by picking up three more valuable points in their push for safety.
"I believe they are the perfect opponents and we are in good form to take them on," Marca quote the forward as saying.
"We know that Real Madrid have been in good form but we have to think about ourselves and about winning this game to help our situation.
"All of us have to be ready and up for it - just like we were in Camp Nou last weekend."
Espanyol have picked up some impressive victories against Madrid in Barcelona in recent seasons but the 27-year-old knows that they count for nothing.
"It is difficult to predict,” he continued. “Each game is different and we cannot look at history. We have to live in the present.
"We caused one of the best teams in Europe problems and now we have to do the same thing against Madrid. We have to continue playing like that.
"From Monday we began to think about Madrid because it is a very important game. Things have changed now we have beaten Barca - that win helped.
"I think that victory is going to lift us and the squad is very excited, even more so now we have beaten our rivals."
