Siena coach Marco Giampaolo is not fazed by his team’s current position, which leaves them hovering just five points above the relegation zone.
Until a few weeks ago the Tuscan side were enjoying the comforts of mid-table and the prospect of an Intertoto spot, but even then Giampaolo’s only target for the season was avoiding the drop.
“Nothing changes at all in our programs,” explained the former Cagliari coach, as reported by Sportmediaset.it. “We have all been aware of how our objective was only the survival.
“Sitting here talking about five, seven or three points has no significance. We shall have to look at our standings on May 31, not before.
“When the league is still going on, the gaps change continuously, everyone knows that.
“We remain concentrated on the survival objective - but, if everything goes well, we could also find ourselves fighting for something more than just permanence in Serie A.”
Siena have 27 points from 25 games played and will host Genoa on Sunday in matchday 26.
