All is quiet on the judiciary front regarding Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo's controversial kick-out on David Dunn, the Blackburn Rovers midfielder, last weekend.
The incident was completely disregarded by the referee, Howard Webb, and it seems certain that the FIFA World Player of the Year will not be charged by the Premier League disciplinary panel.
That has got Manchester City manager Mark Hughes particularly riled up, as Shaun Wright-Phillips is currently in the midst of a three-match ban for a retaliatory hack at Stoke City's Rory Delap.
"We were disappointed Shaun got the three games as we felt there were mitigating circumstances. There seems to have been similar situations in recent days that haven’t been punished as hard," Hughes said in The Daily Mail.
"The opportunity to retrace steps on that one has been missed. The referee [in the United game] has obviously said he’s seen it at the time and didn’t think it merited a sending-off. We felt hard done by, we made our feelings known, but there we go."
This is not the first time the City boss has questioned post-match judiciary procedure; he wasn't the only one baffled that Chelsea defender Jose Bosingwa escaped punishment for his malicious stamp on Liverpool's Yossi Benayoun earlier this month.
The issue in that instance was that the linesman saw the incident in real time and deemed it unworthy of a booking, therefore meaning the decision could not be altered even on video evidence.
Hughes added, "Different referees will have a different response to situations. That’s the top and bottom of it. You’d need to speak to the referees and find out why their interpretations were different."
