Wesley Sneijder has reassured club side Inter
that the ankle injury sustained during Saturday’s friendly match
between the Netherlands and Japan is less serious than first thought.
The
swelling in the 25-year-old’s right ankle has gone down and he could be
in contention for a starting place in the World Cup qualifier against
Scotland on Wednesday.
“Fortunately, the injury was not serious,” he told reporters at the training camp in Noordwijk.
“I won’t be sidelined for a few weeks as I had assumed and feared. I feel good, there are no problems in my ankle.
“I
have spoken to [Inter boss Jose] Mourinho and I am ready to go to
Scotland with my national team, but I’m not sure of playing.”
The
Oranje have already booked their place in next year’s World Cup, and
Inter are hoping Sneijder will be rested ahead of Sunday’s Serie A
match with Parma.
