The coach of the Paraguayan national team, Gerardo Martino, stated that he wants Argentine midfielder Gerardo Ortigoza to play for his national team.
Ortigoza, who has a Paraguayan father, has already completed the paper work to acquire Paraguayan citizenship, and he showed great interest in representing the country.
"It is a nice opportunity, but first I want to speak to Maradona because he told me I'm in his plans for Argentina. I want to speak to him because he has been very good with me, and I don't want to disrespect him," said Ortigoza, who could follow the footsteps of Jonathan Santana, another Argentine who took Paraguayan citizenship before representing Los Guaranies.
Ortigoza affirmed that he prefers to play for Argentina, but he admitted with players like Javier Mascherano, Fernando Gago, Sebastian Battaglia, and Cristian Ledesma in his position, the possibilities of this happening are considerably small.
"In Argentina there are lots of players who play in my position, and I have this opportunity. Maradona will surely understand this. My dream is to play in the World Cup, but I have to speak to him before making a decision," he insisted to radio La Red.
Paraguay, who lead the South American World Cup qualifying group, are confident that they will be able to count with the services of the Argentinos Juniors midfielder.
