Gary Megson is not a an especially popular man amongst Bolton Wanderers fans, who feel his management of the club is negative and unambitious, especially when compared with Sam Allardyce, the current manager of Blackburn Rovers.
Speculation had surfaced at the beginning of the week in the English press that Owen Coyle, the manager of League Cup giant killers Burnley and hailed as one of the game's rising talents, was being lined up to take over from Megson in the summer.
Megson, typically, dismissed the reports with contempt when discussing the issue with The Manchester Evening News.
"I didn't see it," he said. "But I have been told about it.
"I haven't got a reaction because it's nothing. It's part of what goes on in the things around football."
Bolton face a tough home test against Newcastle United on Sunday, with another one to follow at Stoke City next Wednesday. Megson acknowledged today that they were vital games as teams struggled towards the crucial 40-point mark.
The domestic table is tight though, and Megson also feels that no one will feel fully secure until right at the season's end.
"What you hope to do at the start of the season is get to 40 points and then move on," he added.
"But there are very few teams in that position at this moment. The amount of teams locked together is incredible."
The Trotters welcome Chris Hughton's Magpies to the Reebok on Sunday, kick-off 13:00 GMT.
