Obafemi Martins wants Newcastle United to put in some cracking performances and ensure the club are safe from relegation by the time manager Joe Kinnear returns from his period of convalescence following heart surgery.
Kinnear is expected to recuperate for another seven weeks or so from the triple heart bypass surgery he underwent recently after being taken ill before the Magpies' 3-2 win over West Bromwich Albion in the Black Country.
Martins, who has himself been sidelined with a groin injury, has revealed today that the players are missing Kinnear, and are keen to aid the Irishman's recovery by giving him some good results to cheer.
"The lads talk about Joe all the time, and everyone's looking forward to his return," the Nigerian told the club's official website.
"We need to go all out, fight and grind out some good results for him. I'm sure there's nothing he wants so badly than a perfect gift in his return from hospital.
"He's passionate about the club, so he deserves our best wishes."
Martins was also keen to highlight how well the fit players in the squad had done to keep things afloat when he and a whole host of others were stranded in the St James' Park treatment room.
"The lads have been fantastic and battling really hard while the rest of us recover from injury," he added.
"But I think having me, Mark Viduka and Alan Smith back is a big plus for the club as we fight to fix a season that has not gone quite as planned."
And the striker was also keen to stress that assistant manager Chris Hughton, in temporary charge of team affairs in Kinnear's absence, has the full support of the players, who feel that he has been doing an excellent job.
"Chris has been doing a wonderful job," Martins added, by way of conclusion. "He knows what he wants and explains it to everyone on the pitch."
