Sunderland striker Djibril Cisse is reportedly keen to make a big impression, should his ankle injury clear up in time for him to face former club Liverpool at Anfield next Tuesday.
The striker made 78 appearances for the Mersey men between 2004 and 2007, scoring 24 goals. However, he was often left frustrated during his time there at having to play wide rather then through the middle as a main striker.
Having missed the Mackems' spirited 0-0 draw with Arsenal at the Emirates at the weekend, the forward will be doubly keen to make a real impact on his old stamping ground.
"It looks like Djib will be OK for the game," Black Cats' manager Ricky Sbragia told The Sunderland Echo
"We won't take any risks, but he's done some running with us and he was fine."
Meanwhile, there was further news on the injury front from the club's warm weather training camp in Jerez, southern Spain. Trinidad & Tobago striker Kenwyne Jones took a knock on his knee during the weekend's game in London, and is looking doubtful for Tuesday's trip to Anfield.
"Kenwyne has not trained since the game," Sbragia explained. "We're nursing him through and we'll have to see how he is later in the week."
The Mackems boss also felt that moving to Spain temporarily for a spot of warm weather training had had beneficial effects, off the park as well as on.
"The lads had Monday off, but, apart from that, we have trained quite hard," he said.
"We've done the same as would at home, but in much warmer conditions and the change of scenery has been good.
"The lads have played a bit of golf and Andy Reid got his guitar out on Sunday night and we had a laugh. It was a good bonding session."
