Of Milan's summer purchases, full-back Gianluca Zambrotta, who signed from Barcelona, has probably been the most successful one. The Italian World Cup winner has been one of the few consistent players for the Rossoneri this season, which is turning out to be a disaster particularly after their elimination from the UEFA Cup last night against Werder Bremen.
Following the 2-2 draw against the German side at San Siro, which saw Milan knocked out on the away goals rule, the 32-year-old was asked whether he regretted leaving a Barcelona side which has been hugely impressive this season.
"Do I regret leaving Spain? It's pointless to say things like that now," he was quoted as saying by Datasport. "With hypothetical arguments you don't go anywhere. And Milan aren't the only team having problems in Europe.
"This is football, all we can do is go forward, trying to finish the season in the best possible way. We only have the league now and the least we can do is finish third. I remain confident, we mustn't give up.
"Should we change the system to have more defensive cover? Those decisions aren't up to me."
Milan are currently in third place with 48 points, 11 behind leaders Inter. This weekend they play 14th placed Sampdoria at the Comunale Luigi Ferraris.
