Chelsea 2-0 Arsenal: Didier Drogba Double Dispatches Demoralised Arsenal

Mon Feb 08, 2010 6:05 am by Ali Swaidan

Two first half goals from Didier Drogba were enough to send Chelsea back to the top of the Premier League as the Blues beat Arsenal2-0 at Stamford Bridge this afternoon.

Arsenal started brightly but it was Chelsea that opened the scoring. Gael Clichy conceded a cheap free-kick as he clattered into Nicolas Anelka on the right flank. Drogba floated the ball into the penalty area and Theo Walcott headed the ball out for a corner. Florent Malouda whipped it in and John Terry flicked the ball on to the back post, where an unmarked Drogba slotted home at the near post: 1-0 to Chelsea with seven minutes played.

Chelsea pierced the Arsenal back line on two separate occasions with through balls …

Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola has assumed all responsibilities when it comes to signing new players for the next campaign. After verbally renewing his contract for next season, Guardiola has taken on the duties previously relegated to Txiki Begiristain for next season's additions, according to Marca.

The Barca coach has reportedly decided upon either Cesc Fabregas or Franck Ribery as his big summer signing for next season.

The Barca coach wants to sign the Frenchman as he currently lacks a predominantly left-sided player for next season. However, signing Ribery may not be up to Guardiola as Bayern refused to sell the player last summer and if they …

No Maicon For Man City

Thu Feb 04, 2010 5:42 am by Ali Swaidan

The agent of Inter Milan defender Maicon has rejected rumours suggesting that the player could be set for a move to Manchester City.

City boss Roberto Mancini - who managed the Serie A leaders - is known to be an admirer of the Brazilian, but didn't make a move during the January transfer window.

There were also reports that Inter had offered Maicon a new contract in a bid to keep him at the club.

But his agent, Antonio Caliendo scoffed at both suggestions.

"There is no meeting scheduled with Inter, these have already been held in the past and Maicon is very happy with Inter," he said.

"I know nothing about this alleged new link with Manchester City, these are all …

Stadium: The Emirates Stadium, London
Day: Sunday, 31st January

Arsenal are unbeaten in their last four home Premier League games
against United, whose last victory was in February 2005 when they won
4-2 at Highbury. On Wednesday, they squandered the chance to return to
the top of the Premier League when they were held to a 0-0 draw by
Aston Villa. And they also lost Thomas Vermaelen, who left on crutches
and could be replaced by Sol Campbell.

United beat Hull 4-0 in their previous Premier …
